The Legendary Indian Butter Chicken Recipe

But the good news is, delicious, flavor-packed, creamy and rich Butter Chicken can be easily prepared at home. So, all you have to do is keep a couple of ingredients ready for the preparation of this lip-smacking dish.
 
Here is the recipe and the list of ingredients that would be needed.
 
1 ½ cups Greek yogurt
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 ½ tablespoons turmeric
2 tablespoons garam masala
2 tablespoons cumin powder
3 pounds chicken thighs 
¼ pound unsalted butter
4 teaspoons vegetable oil 
2 medium-size yellow onions, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
3 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated or finely diced
1 tablespoon cumin seeds
1 cinnamon stick
2 medium-size tomatoes, diced
2 red chillies, diced
Salt to taste
⅔ cup chicken stock, low-sodium 
1 ½ cups cream
1 ½ teaspoons tomato paste
3 tablespoons finely chopped almonds
½ bunch coriander leaves 
 
PREPARATION
 
Step 1:
Mix yogurt, lemon juice, turmeric, garam masala and cumin in a large bowl. Put the chicken, let it sit in the marinade, cover and refrigerate for a day.
 
Step 2:
In a large pan, melt the butter in the oil until it starts to foam. Add onions, and keep stirring frequently, until translucent. Now add ginger, garlic and cumin seeds, and cook until the onions start to brown.
 
Step 3:
Add cinnamon, tomatoes, chillies and salt, and cook for nearly 10 minutes, until the chillies turn soft.
 
Step 4:
Add chicken and the marinade to the pan and cook for 5 minutes. Then add the chicken stock and bring it to a boil. Then lower the heat, simmer and cook for approximately 30 minutes, without the lid.
 
Step 5:
Add the cream and tomato paste, and simmer until the chicken is cooked through, for 10 -15 minutes.
 
Step 6:
Add almonds, cook for 5 minutes and remove from the heat. Garnish with coriander leaves.
